MORE THAN JUST A LOCKSMITH
About Lancashire Locksmith.
Experience makes the difference.
You are not only paying for what we do—you are paying for the knowledge needed to diagnose the problem, choose the right solution and leave your property secure.
Our approach
We assess the lock and door carefully, explain the available options and use non-destructive entry wherever possible. Where drilling or replacement is necessary, we explain why before proceeding.
Our aim is a secure, lasting repair rather than a short-term fix.
Our promise
Clear prices, quality parts and professional workmanship from a friendly, experienced locksmith engineer.
We support homes, businesses and vehicle owners across Lancashire, with emergency assistance available 24 hours a day. No fixed arrival time is promised, because an honest estimate on the phone is worth more than a number nobody can keep.
The locksmith who turns up
Lancashire Locksmith is one person: Ștefan Saghin. The number you call is answered by him, and he is the engineer who attends. There is no call centre in between, and the job is not sold on to a subcontractor you have never spoken to.
He qualified as a locksmith in Italy in 2022, four years ago, and has been trading as Lancashire Locksmith across the county since 2025. Those are two different numbers and they are given separately on purpose: four years qualified, one year running this business. He is DBS checked, and the business carries public liability insurance.
Two things he is not. He is not a member of the Master Locksmiths Association, or of any other trade association — membership is voluntary, many capable locksmiths have none, and we would rather tell you than let a silence imply otherwise. And this is not an old firm with a decade of trading behind it. What it is instead is a qualified engineer who answers his own phone, publishes every rate on this website, and explains the cost before the work rather than after it.
Company registration is in progress, and a dedicated business email is being arranged; until then enquiries come to the address in the footer. Both will be updated here as soon as they are done.

Locksmithing is not regulated in the UK
There is no licence to hold, no register to appear on and no legal requirement for training, insurance or a criminal record check. Anyone can advertise as a locksmith tomorrow morning. We would rather say that plainly than let you assume otherwise.
What that means in practice is that the checks are yours to make, of us and of anyone else. Ask for the total price — call-out, labour and likely parts — before anyone travels. Ask whether they are insured. Expect to be asked to prove you are entitled to enter the property, and be concerned if you are not. Check the number you are calling reaches the person who will attend, rather than a national call centre that sells the job on. And be wary of anyone who reaches straight for a drill: drilling is faster than picking, and it conveniently sells you a new lock.
Our answers: prices are published in full on this website, including the night and weekend rates. The engineer is named above, qualified in 2022, DBS checked, and the business carries public liability insurance. Non-destructive entry is attempted first on every job, and drilling is explained, with its cost, before it happens.
Choosing a locksmith
Locksmithing is not a regulated trade in the UK. These are the questions worth asking of anyone you call, including us.
Are locksmiths licensed in the UK?
No. Locksmithing is unregulated in the UK: there is no licence, no register and no legal requirement for training, insurance or a criminal record check. Anyone can advertise as a locksmith tomorrow. That is precisely why what a locksmith can show you about themselves matters more here than in most trades.
How do I check a locksmith is legitimate?
Ask for a total price before they travel, including call-out, labour and likely parts. Check they are insured and will say by whom. Check they will ask you to prove you are entitled to enter the property. Look for a real local address or service area and a phone number that is answered by the person attending, rather than a national call centre that subcontracts the job.
Should a locksmith be DBS checked?
There is no legal requirement, which is why it is worth asking. A locksmith is someone you let into your home, often at night, often when you are alone and already unsettled. A DBS check is a basic, inexpensive thing for a locksmith to have done, and a straight answer about it tells you something either way.
What should a locksmith ask me before opening my door?
Something that shows you are entitled to be there: a driving licence, a tenancy agreement, post addressed to you, or a neighbour or landlord who will confirm it. A locksmith who opens a door for whoever is standing outside it will do the same at your house when you are out.
Do locksmiths need insurance?
It is not legally required, and that is the point of asking. Public liability insurance covers damage caused while working on your property. Ask whether a locksmith holds it before they start, not afterwards.
What qualifications does your locksmith have?
Ștefan Saghin qualified as a locksmith in Italy in 2022. UK locksmithing has no licence and no mandatory qualification, so a qualification earned anywhere counts for exactly as much as the work it lets someone do. He has been trading as Lancashire Locksmith since 2025.
Are you a member of the Master Locksmiths Association?
No, and we would rather say so than leave it unsaid. MLA membership is voluntary and plenty of competent locksmiths do not hold it, so its absence proves little on its own — but neither does a badge, and you are entitled to a straight answer. Judge us on published prices, a named engineer who answers his own phone, a DBS check and public liability cover.
Are you insured, and who is the engineer?
The business carries public liability insurance. The engineer is Ștefan Saghin, who both answers the phone and attends the job; it is not passed to a subcontractor. He is DBS checked. Company registration is in progress and is noted in the footer of every page until it completes.
How long have you been in business?
Since 2025, so this is a young business, and we would rather you heard that from us. The qualification behind it dates from 2022. A locksmith who has traded for twenty years is not automatically the safer choice; what you can actually check — the price before the work, the insurance, the DBS check, whether they ask you to prove you live there — matters more than the age of the business.
What is the Master Locksmiths Association?
The MLA is a trade association that inspects and vets its members, including criminal record checks. Membership is voluntary and many capable locksmiths are not members, so its absence does not mean much on its own — but it is one of the few independent checks that exists in an unregulated trade, and it is a fair thing to ask about.
