uPVC door & multipoint lock repairs in Lancashire

If a uPVC door locks when open but not when closed, it is alignment, adjusted from £76. If the handle will not lift at all, the multipoint gearbox has failed, and that is repaired from £216. uPVC door repairs that do not involve the mechanism start at £148.

From £148 · call-out and labour rates

A handle that will not lift, a key that will not turn or a door that only locks when pushed can indicate a lock or alignment problem. We diagnose and repair uPVC and composite door locking faults across Lancashire.

Signs of a door or lock fault

A dropping handle, grinding mechanism, stiff key or hooks that do not engage can have different causes. If the lock operates with the door open but catches when closed, alignment may be involved. Avoid repeatedly forcing it: extra pressure can damage the gearbox.

Repair the cause of the problem

We check the cylinder, handles, hinges, keeps and multipoint mechanism before recommending work. Adjusting the door may be sufficient in some cases; in others a gearbox or complete mechanism needs replacement. We explain which parts are required before proceeding.

Details that help identify parts

Tell us the door material and symptoms, and whether it is currently locked shut. For a non-urgent enquiry, photographs of the handles and any visible markings on the door-edge faceplate can help identify the mechanism. Do not dismantle a jammed lock to obtain a photograph.

Repair charges and next steps

Our guide lists uPVC door repairs from £148, multipoint repairs from £216 and alignment from £76. The fault, replacement parts and attendance time affect the total. See the pricing page for separate attendance and labour charges, then call to discuss the door.

Common questions

What is the difference between a uPVC door repair and a mechanism replacement?

A repair replaces an individual part — a handle, a keep, a hinge, a cylinder or a spring cassette — and keeps the rest of the door as it is. A mechanism replacement swaps the whole multipoint strip, and is needed when the gearbox inside it has failed, because that part is not separately serviceable on most designs.

Can a composite or aluminium door be repaired the same way?

Largely yes. Composite and aluminium doors use the same kind of multipoint mechanism and euro cylinder as uPVC, so the diagnosis and the parts are comparable. The hinges differ and the door slabs are heavier, which makes alignment work slightly different in practice.

Do I need the door measured before you come out?

It helps but is not required. The brand stamped on the faceplate along the door edge, the backset and the PZ measurement identify the mechanism, and a photograph of the faceplate and handle usually captures all three. With those, the right part is far more likely to be on the van.

How long will my door be out of action?

A repair to a handle, keep or hinge is usually quick. A full mechanism replacement takes roughly one to two hours where the part is available. If an uncommon mechanism has to be ordered, the door is made secure in the meantime rather than left open.
